Modern Dance

Umbrella Arts’ staff and guest instructors are high caliber, experienced professionals with national and international performance, choreography, directorial, and educational credit and expertise. It is our privilege and passion to provide a unique, unparalleled and elite training experience for the artistic children of our community!

What Is Modern Dance? It is a very expressive style of dance that doesn’t follow the strict and rigid guidelines and techniques of classical ballet.

Simply put, ballet teaches dancers to establish lines in the body and modern teaches dancers how to curve and manipulate the lines! Modern techniques, skills and concepts we explore include - and are not limited to - Graham, Limon and Horton.
